Philosophy of Education
I believe that each student is an individual; they have their own unique talents, skills, and rates of learning. Not one student is alike and therefore, each one deserves to be treated special and equal among each other. Each student has the potential to succeed in whatever they wish, and they should be given that opportunity with encouragment to reach all their goals. With that in mind, each student has the responsibility to use their abilities to the fullest potential, set goals for themselves, and never lose sight of them. They need to learn to embrace every learning experience and use them to their advantage in acquiring knowledge. This responsibility cannot be solely be left upon the student though.
I believe it is the job of the staff, parents, and community to respect the individual needs of each student, to foster a caring environment, and emphasize the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each student. Teachers need to challenge and support students in their educational careers. They need to guide them on the road to successful by being dedicated professionals who are educated, trained, supportive, and positive role models. All teachers need to have a great passion to teach. This must be reflected through their teaching and by displaying this passion, it will greatly manifest onto the students. The best teachers are the ones who possess passion for teaching and influencing others. In addition, teaching is not simply a job for them, but something that is a part of them.
I believe that students should participate in engaging, challenging, and learning-supportive programs, while developing the values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility. For these students are the future and how their minds and lives are shaped now will affect them in the years to come. Curriculum and instruction should meet the developmental needs of every age group and especially the individual child. Thus, I believe that students learn successfully through asking questions, problem solving, making decisions, and a variety of activities; ones that will be creative, challenging, comprehensive, and at the same time educational in subject area and development.
